Welcome to The ATI Project section

Ad Terram Incognitam (ATI) means 'To the unknown Lands.' ATI is a French organisation founded in 2004, seeking to set up and maintain interaction and communication between different schools all over the planet. We achieve this with the help of an Internet platform and international travellers around the planet.

The idea behind the project is to provide an Internet platform, www.atitam.org where pupils, from the age of 11 to 18, through an open minded dialogue with other pupils from around the world can develop their reflective capabilities and learn about the complexity of human life. To be aware of human sameness despite cultural diversity and have an eye for plurality, fairness, autonomy, tolerance and the environment is a useful tool if one wants to live a good life and peacefully co-exist with other people.

Four individuals with different professional backgrounds founded ATI, as an officially recognised organisation in October 2004. These individuals represent the ATI Team and as a whole, the team is gathering around a common experience of extended travels and the values such an activity can bring about. The ATI team finds it important to embrace the above-mentioned values but recognise that they are not fundamental and cannot be imposed on anyone but have to arise for them selves in the individual. Engaging in dialogue with different people of different cultural backgrounds can however be an eye-opening experience especially with relation to the above mentioned values.

ATI provides a learning tool that enables pupils to engage in dialogue with other pupils from all over the world. By becoming a member of the ATI network, one gains the privileges of an ATI membership. In concrete, this means that:

  • One can via the ATI network get in contact with another school
  • One can engage in a partnership with an ATI Traveller
  • One gains access to the ATI forum

The ATI membership provides teachers with a non-constraining educational tool and the teacher is free to choose the duration and the extent of a communication with another school. ATI is responsible for setting up the initial communication between schools and makes sure that mutual commitment is present.

We hope you will become a member of the ATI network and help it grow. Pupils of the world are our focal point and ATI is dependent on the participation of various schools around the world. Come join us and help make the world become a better place for everyone.
